Goa
Just a nine hour flight from the UK is a paradise called Goa. Blue skies, fantastic sandy beaches on the Arabian Sea, friendly locals and hours of warm sunshine make Goa a perfect winter sun destination. The Portuguese have had a lot of influence over Goa, they ruled the until as recent as 1961, having conquered in 1510. They built churches, roads and introduced Christianity to thearea.
Goa offers some fantastic food from local curry dishes to fantastic seafood including tiger prawns, lobsters and kingfish. Many restaurants will barbecue in tandori ovens assoon as local fisherman bring them to the kitchen. Food and drink is very reasonably priced and a full meal with wine can be purchased from as little £5!

Information
British Passport holders must have at least six months left on their passport and will require a visa for entry to Goa. Visa's can be obtained from the Indian High Commission in London, for further details please call 0891 444544. They can also be obtained from the Indian Visa Office in Birmingham (Tel 0121 2122782) or Indian Visa Office in Edinburgh (Tel 0131 229 2144). The visa is currently £25 per person as of 18th July 2006.
Top Tip: If you intend to travel to Goa or Kerala more than once apply for a multiple visa and inform them of the dates you intend on going, you will only have to pay for your Indian visa once.

The north coast of Goa offers the most resorts and is the most commercial part of this wonderful destination. The most popular resorts in this area are Baga, Calangute and Candolim.
The central resorts of Goa offer tranquil beaches and have a much more relaxed way of life. An ideal base from which to explore all of Goa, nightlife tends to be hotel based.
The southern resorts in Goa are less commercialised and tend to be a little more expensive to get to. Main resorts include Cavelossim Beach and Benaulim.
